I believe in the importance of staying current in EdTech so this remains one of my PGP goals each year. I utilize my technology expertise daily to communicate, to teach and to support colleagues. I have six years of experience teaching with a 1-1 Chromebook ratio and in my classroom, I strive to use technology in a purposeful way. I was also a member of the REdTech committee for two years.
Building Teacher Capacity:
I have provided PD sessions at West Park Elementary School, Glendale Sciences and Technology School and at District events. These in-services have been about workflow, literacy, art and technology.
I have been helping colleagues within my school and other schools design balanced literacy programs for five years. Instructional Design is a passion of mine and I enjoy sharing my expertise with other teachers.
Building a Positive School Culture:
As a Literacy Specialist this year, not only have I helped colleagues with their planning and PD, I have also collected and used data to determine our school’s literacy direction and fostered a positive school culture around literacy by mentoring teachers in organizing and planning successful #GSTSreads Assemblies and other literacy celebrations.
Redesigning our Learning Commons Space has been a passion project which began after I had a difficult time helping students find books to read. I created a plan, a budget, and timelines then put the grade 8 classes to work making it happen. The exciting reveal of our newly functional learning space which honours First Nations, Metis and Inuit culture is coming up at the end of April.
I have sat on numerous committees and supervised student clubs based on school need. I have also enjoyed coaching our senior boys’ basketball team to take Bronze twice and Gold once.
